Hidden Gem

Cooks Cove Walkway

Venture up State Highway 35 for a coastal adventure. Stop off at the Cooks Cove Walkway, which is a hidden gem area to explore as well the eye-catching Te Pourewa (Beacon of Light) – a 12-metre tall sculpture. Bring your togs for a dip in the refreshing bay at the bottom.

Locals Tip

Tolaga Bay

What’s the perfect treat after conquering the walkway? Melt in your mouth, hot out of the oven pizzas from Broad Bills, Uawa. With plenty of games to play and green open space for the kids to run around freely.

With the legendary Tolaga Bay Wharf just a stone’s throw away, it’s an easy hop over the road to walk the 660m length of New Zealand’s longest wharf.

Self Guided Tour

Just in case the kids haven’t burned off enough energy for the weekend, the Tupapa Heritage Trail, a must-do self-guided walk takes you from Gisborne’s city centre to off road tracks. This 4km walk from the city to Titirangi Reserve is best done with the free Tupapa app and ends with epic views at the top of our cities maunga (mountain).
